A Contemporary Interior
by Gallery Magda Danysz
Location: BRAFA 2013
Date: 19 Jan - 27 Jan 2013

For the BRAFA 2013 in Brussels from January 19th to 27th, Jacques Barrère Gallery in association with Magda Danysz Gallery presents “A Contemporary Interior”. This audacious project aims at mixing antic masterpieces to the art of the most talented emerging artists of the new generation.

Both Jacques Barrère’s and Magda Danysz’s galleries wish to showcase their favourite pieces as if in a contemporary apartment. Artworks that you can find in the greatest Asian art museum and contemporary artworks which are now part of international museums’ collections are here exhibited together. In this contemporary interior, designed as an actual place of living, Asian antics and contemporary artworks co-exist with harmony. Gathering pieces from different times and styles put the emphasis on how Art is a consistent concept over time.

“A Contemporary Interior” shows Jacques Barrère and Magda Danysz’s enthusiastic passion for both Asian antiques and contemporary art. Selected pieces of Khmer, Japanese or Indian Art are displayed near contemporary works of art from China, as Liu Bolin and Yang Yongliang’s photographs or Wang Keping’s sculptures, but also site specific works from famous street artists such as J.R., JonOne, Vhils and Sten Lex.

In this special exhibition, the simplicity of a Cambodian male deity faces the black & white photographs of Chinese raising artist: Yang Yongliang. You can also admire Wang Keping’s wooden sculptures coexisting with Khmers’ sandstone sculptures. All these objects from different times and different parts of the world creates one of the most original and audacious booth of the BRAFA art fair this year.
