Green Living in Wong Tai Sin – East Asian Games Inauguration Ceremony cum Green Windmill-making Art Booth
Time: 3.30 pm – 6.30 pm
Venue: Wong Tai Sin Temple Court
In collaboration with Kowloon Federation of Associations – Wong Tin Sin District Committee, 1a space proudly co-presents the meaningful project “Green Living in Wong Tai Sin – East Asian Games” and its fringe event “East Asian Games - Green windmill-making Competition”. Local artists will join hands to promote green art and raise the public awareness towards global environmental issues such as air pollution.
Established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1975, World Environment Day (WED) echoes the needs to protect the planet by global, collective actions. On 6 July, 2009, a day after the WED, green visual artists will gather at Wong Tai Sin Temple Square, and demonstrate to the public how to create windmills in creative green ways. The Windmills Art Booth speaks of 1a space’s concern on global environmental degradation. The event will be a prelude of the upcoming Windmills Festival 2009.
The inauguration ceremony opens the way for subsequent fringe events as well as the other green project initiated by 1a space – “Kai Tak River: The concept of Human Landscape – Building Community –Creativity & Creative Community-Building”. In October the same year, a “Windmill-making Workshop” will be open to the public for participation. Local citizens will have the chance to learn how to use recycled materials to create green windmills. A Windmill-making Competition (divided into Public Group /Student Group) is going to be held in the same month. In November, a 3-month Windmills Festival 2009 will be inaugurated at Kai Tak River, with selected works exhibited on-site.
Windmills Festival 2009 is part of the project of “Kai Tak River: The concept of Human Landscape – Building Community –Creativity & Creative Community-Building”, which officially kicked-off in April, 2009. The initiative aims to increase the awareness of the greater populace towards the community – through exhibition, workshop, forum and publication. The spectrum spans from community building, cultural sustainable development, civil education to creative urban planning.
