Repeat Offender
by Kukje Gallery
Location: Kukje Gallery
Artist(s): Aaron YOUNG
Date: 2 Jul - 5 Aug 2010

Young's sophisticated works are marked by rebelliousness, impulsive energy and macho demeanor. Dynamic and full of energy, he is allso well -know for his ambitious and dangerous performances. In particular, his work involving hired motorcycle bike riders to creat "action paintings" completed by scores of tire marks reveal his abstract expressionist inclinations and a sharp nod to Jackson Pollack's action paintings through his won brilliant re-interpretation.

This exhibition draws on Aaron Young's untitled (barricade), untitled (glass) series, and video work. Untitled (barricade) is a part of Young's sculptural work and presents gold-plated barricades that are crushed, seeming to recall scenes of violent protests and destructive actions. Untitled (glass) are two-dimensional works reminiscent of graffiti. This body of work features violent and racial phrases which have been painted on a glass surface using spray paint. Evocative of countercultureal tendencies and aggressive macho disposition. The work display are polished and alluring.
