Guy Maestri has been awarded the prestigious Archibald Prize for his portrait of blind aboriginal singer Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu.

The portrait was selected from 708 entries in the annual award, regarded by many as Australia’s most significant art prize.

Maestri will hold his first solo exhibition in Asia at The Cat Street Gallery in Hong Kong on May 7th in association with the Tim Olsen Gallery.

Guy Maestri now joins a long list of revered Australian artists including George Lambert, William Dobell and Brett Whiteley.

Guy Maestri will travel to Hong Kong for the opening of his solo exhibition which will run from 7 May 2009 - 6 June 2009 at The Cat Street Gallery.
