Wishful Thinking - Kim Robinson
by The Cat Street Gallery
Location: The Cat Street Gallery
Date: 15 Jan - 8 Feb 2009

Evolving from his wealth of experience in the fields of design, beauty and style, Australian born Kim Robinson is an artist who combines unusual textures and mixes sophistication with more earthly motifs in his paintings.

Robinson's style is spontaneous and constantly developing as a consequence of his travels and quest to seek out new inspiration from every possible interaction. As an artist he is very conscious of his paintings as objects which exist in a particular time and space and aims for his pieces to harmonise with their environment. In this sense he playfully compares his art "with a pair of well worn in jeans".

An approach consistent in his work is the delicate juxtaposition of aesthetics - he mixes the old with the new, combines outdoor ruggedness with indoor refinement and constantly seeks new colour and texture harmonies. Consequently there is something serene to his paintings, that work hard to find a perfect balance within an ever changing modern world.

Kim Robinson is best known for his high profile career in the beauty industry and being the creative mastermind behind Hong Kong's premier salon. A career spanning more than 30 years has taken him from the catwalks of the world's fashion capitals to the pages of Harpers Bazaar, Elle, French Vogue, and has attracted an A-list clientele that has included Princess Diana, Isabella Rossellini, Audrey Hepburn, and supermodels Linda Evangelista, Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington and Kate Moss.

But his home and heart are very much in Asia where, from his Hong Kong base, he has styled some of the continent's most beautiful women. It's from Hong Kong that Robinson paints, a pursuit which both feeds off his career and offers him a pure aesthetic outlet. This is the artist's first solo show and The Cat Street Gallery is proud to introduce Kim Robinson the painter.

The Cat Street Gallery and Kim Robinson will be donating 20% of the proceeds from the show to support Operation Smile China Medical Mission.
Operation Smile is a worldwide children's medical charity that is dedicated to helping improve the lives of children born with cleft lips, cleft palates and other facial deformities.
