Southern Brights is Jone's second solo exhibition in Hong Kong, with a progression from her "light works" using mirrors and changing colors (via. LED lights), to her new favored medium seen in this show - reflective coatings and technology rich vinyl adhesives on hardboard. These works continue to challenge and intensity the viewers awareness of space and time, those same sensations are now provided via optical illusions that are designed to present a 3D view from a 2D plane.
"In many ways" says Jones, "this new body of work is a continuation of the central theme from my 2006 Masters, that being an exploration of time, space and colour. Rather than using technology to achieve that end, the effect is provided by more modest materials that work together to create space within a picture frame".
