In the context of this Diamond Jubilee year in the UK, this collaborative exhibition will bring some of London's biggest names and brightest stars to Hong Kong. Set to open the week of the International Hong Kong Art Fair, ART HK 12, the exhibition considers notions of money, power and art as epitomised by the hardness and brilliance of diamonds. The final selection will be announced by the start of May, but confirmed artists include: Sir Peter Blake, David Mach (RA), Humphrey Ocean (RA), Emily Young (FRBS), Rob and Nick Carter, Steven Pippin, Chris Levine, Polly Morgan, Boo Saville, Dan Baldwin, Hugo Dalton, Jeremy Butler, Steve Goddard and Giles Alexander.
2012 marks an extraordinary moment in British cultural history, and The British Cut is a critical survey of the contemporary art scene of this unique moment. It is set to be a historical year; Queen Elizabeth II celebrates her Diamond Jubilee Anniversary and London will play host to the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Plugging into this electric activity, the exhibition here in Hong Kong draws together a multifaceted selection of artwork that encourage various dialogues such as: the appropriation of art for the purposes of political or corporate power; the ever increasing fiscal values of 'blue chip' art that now compete with rare stones for record breaking sums at auction; the concept of art as refined, luxurious product and, conversely, the rejection of traditional materials.
