Location: Beyond Art Space
Artist(s): PENG Wei, HE Sen, LI Wei, HOU Yong, CAO Jingping
Date: 17 Jul - 29 Aug 2010

On July 17th, 2010 the exhibition "Whisper of the wind” will feature the following artists Cao Jing Ping, He Sen, Hou Yong, Li Wei and Peng Wei. The opening of the exhibition starts on July 17th and will last until August 29th at Beyond Art Space. "Whisper of the wind" literally determines to listen to the natural sound, with a pure mind that feels the simplicity and the enjoyment of nature, but "Whisper of the wind," is also disconnected with the attitude towards things. The five participating artists in this exhibition are inspired from the concept or style of the traditional Chinese ink paintings. By using ink, they draw their inspiration and ideas onto their paintings. The images form a quiet ambient, which reflects the process of enjoyment and dedication to the artistic ideal, elsewhere there is a desire feeling in the city that brings the viewers tranquility to their heart.

Ink Art has over 1000 years of history. The development of China today shows undoubtedly a symbol of its unique culture and identity. Since the reform and opening up, the influence of the Western art and modern art differentiated from the traditional ink which is more to explore and includes the abstract ink paintings and the citizen characters in the ink expressionism. At the turn of the century, there has been a rapid development of Chinese contemporary art, where artists keep exploring western art form, such as painting, installation, video and performance art. They combine the humanism of the traditional Chinese culture and ink painting in their works. Born in China, He Sen, Cao Jingping, Hou Yong, Li Wei and Peng Wei grew up against the background of Chinese culture and they naturally examine humanism with their unique Chinese art perspectives. The strokes of He Sen in his oil painting show a reproduction of the ancient painter's masterpiece. Cao Jingping, on the contrary expresses a rhyme of the modern landscape with a traditional way of line drawing to depict a landscape, of these same ancient spirits that were shown on the landscape and in the expression. The ink points in Li Wei’s paintings are composed of a casual beauty of the city's capture. The ink points in the abstract drawing shows that her process is as if it was tempered in a general practice. Hou Yong's paintings of water are concretely realistic that become abstract, which is constantly repeated. There are gradually neglected forms and there is more experience in the physical assets of water caused by the philosophical speculation. Peng Wei’s paintings and installations tend to preserve the traditional Chinese media of paper and ink and has been converting the contemporary form. They can be regarded as a contemporary explanation of the traditional Chinese aesthetics from the perspective of a female artist.

The 5 artists paintings follow the same direction and are similar and different in other ways. Why does great art stay in the history, we are waiting in the "Whisper of the wind."
