Date: 6 Mar - 24 Mar 2013
As seen in the title 'mystic scenery', signs in Chun Nunn's work are far from its meaning or referent. The artist calls them 'irregular signs', which are different from general agreement, but still signs themselves. Rather than they are meaningless or abstract, but uncertain. Signs can be changed and art is very important since it can be the stage or laboratory for those changes. 'Irregular' means internalized reality in general to the young generation, and it reflects on the undecided life with anxiety. A scene on his painting seems ambiguous all the time. However, the artist tries to provide a chance of liberation from the reality dominated by pseudo-materiality through ambiguousness signs create.
Chun Nunn's painting is another room in the atelier, and its door opens from the exhibition. His tragic outlook is reflected on the fantasy world, which is called 'nest'. It can be found in flown liquid on painting. When imagination gets bigger, the reality becomes more superficial. Inner side can be a haven from hostile outside. To artist with this thoughts, work becomes the existential livelihood.
