The Toot Yung Gallery is pleased to announce the first erotic oriented show of Chiang Mai based painter Pakitsilp Varamissara.
Pakitsilp Varamissara was never shy about depicting erotism in his work. Using the temple‘s classical wall paintings as an inspiration he made several reproductions of erotic scenes, sometimes pushing the eros to its limit.
As in traditional Thai painting, Varamissara’s painting is never vulgar, the erotic sense of the work is always displayed in a game of hide and seek; a surprising detail, a special look between two characters, it is always subtly composed.
Recently, Pakitsilp Varamissara, inspired by Asian primitive art, has rendered erotic works to its basic shapes, creating compositions with a mystical, almost spiritual feel.
Comprising some 30 works created from an over 20 years period, this exhibition is a subtle selection of tempera on wood, using traditional Thai painting method, sketches, acrylic paintings, and sculptural painted objects.
