Born in Sichuan Province in 1983, Chen Jiao has received a Bachelor's Degree and a Master's Degree from one of the most renowned and elite art academies in China, the Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts in Chonqging. Chen was also selected to study art in Germany on a special scholarship in 2007.
In 2006, Chen Jiao was awarded the Gold Prize at the finalists' exhibition of the Chinese Art Prize (CAP) for Chinese emerging artists. Chen was selected as the top emerging Chinese artist out of over 1,000 applicants to the Chinese Art Prize. Members of the CAP jury/ selection committee included: Gerard Goodrow, Director of Art Cologne (one of the world's top art expositions) and Jeff Kelley, Cuator of the Asian Art Museum, and others.
In 2006, Chen Jiao also held her first museum show at one of China's top art museums, the He Xiangning Museum of Art in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province.
Chen had her first international showing in 2007 at Art Cologne, the earliest established art fair in the world, and still one of the world's most prestigious. Chen Jiao held her first important solo exhibition that same year at Art Scene Warehouse in Shanghai. And she also showed her work in Miami, Florida at the Reed Savage Gallery.
In 2008, Chen Jiao's works were again exhibited at Art Cologne, with many visitors called her work "amoung the bst in the whole fair".
Chen Jiao took a brief hiatus from painting after the tremendous earthquake in her
home province, which shook her childhood home.
By the end of 2008, Chen Jiao held her second important solo exhibition at Art Scene Warehouse, Shanghai.
