This year, Art Kaoshiung invited 61 galleries from Taiwan and other countries, including 12 international galleries: Tomio Koyama Gallery/Japan, B Gallery/Japan, Gallery YUME/Japan, HRD Fine Art/Japan, SYSTEMA Gallery/Japan, Next Door Gallery/Korea, Gallery Atti/Korea, AP Gallery/ Korea, etc. and 49 domestic galleries, including Soka Art Center, Liang Gallery, Nicebuyart Gallery, ARTHIS FINE ART, J.P. ART Center, Sincewell Gallery, Philippe Staib Gallery, Art & Julia's Gallery, and many more.
Two Art Sections X Two Features
This year, THE PIER-2 ART CENTER will be a “Contemporary Art Section”. Via Mr. Li Jin-Min, the president of Modern Art Association of Kaohsiung and Mr. Su Zhi-Che, the curator of Art Kaoshiung annual theme exhibition, they selected the theme of “Imbalanced Sense of Beauty” to soften the image of Kaohsiung, which is usually described as “Roughness”, “Carelessness”, “Austerity”, “Desert”, “Border area”, etc. Therefore, artists chose unfamiliar topics, recycled materials and darker tones to express their deepest feeling for the land without adornment and polishing. “Ordered Chaos” and “Restrained Passion” accurately express how people feel about Kaohsiung and indirectly explain most of the local artists’ longing for creation. For promoting young artists, Art Kaoshiung invited the Kaohsiung Awards winners, Miss. Wang Wei-Ting and Mr. Jian Hao-Jiang and the Observer Awards winner, Mr. Chen Kuan-Ying to create a diverse and varied exhibition.
Meanwhile, by walking 10 minutes, there will be a “Modern & Contemporary Art Sector” in CHATEAU de CHINE 7/F and 8/F.
To coordinate all the resources in Kaohsiung and increase the participation of the masses, the Modern & Contemporary Art Section is held in the form of a hotel art fair. The expectation of Art Kaoshiung is to gradually have a balance development of art industries in Northern and Southern Taiwan. At the fair, SYSTEMA GALLERY/Japan will present works by Miho Ishihara and Katsu Ishida. Gallery Atti/Korea will show works by Namhee Lee and Sunhee Kim. Sonnentor Art Space, which has recently received great attention, will feature works by Guim Tió Zarraluki. IMAVISION Gallery will show works by an artist with unique style, Gao Yi-Sheng. All of the art works are exceptional and worthy of expectation.
During the exhibition, the professional Gallerist, Mr. Tomio Koyama will be invited to the forum to talk about his view of gallery business and contemporary art and Mr. Jimmy, Lu, the senior artistic adviser, will also be invited to discuss the current situation of art industry and the history of gallery business.
VIP opening party will be held on September 13th art collectors to join and celebrate.
On September 14th, Bureau of Culture Affairs Kaohsiung City Government specially organizes a “VIP Night”, which all the participants, famous construction companies and leaders from all circles will take part in and enrich the summer night in Kaohsiung.
After a 10 year hiatus, Art Kaoshiung makes its comeback.
In 2002, Art Kaoshiung was held by Taiwan Art Gallery Association. Although Kaohsiung is the largest city in Sothern Taiwan, the lack of humanistic environment and the emphasis of heavy industry development make artists the orphan in art market, private galleries disappear and government exhibition space take over. In fact, despite the ups and downs of economic activity in Taiwan, the artists from Kaohsiung never stop creating and exhibiting. Their passion never cools down.
After a 10 year hiatus, Art Kaoshiung makes its comeback with more preparation for being professional and complete, leading 61 domestic and international galleries, 300 artists and 1500 works to full exposure. Beginning from THE PIER-2 ART CENTER and taking the curation advice from the leader of contemporary art industry, Modern Art Association of Kaohsiung, the organizer shows different vision and ambition from the past. The true collection is from the passion of art; the true appreciation is from the caring of life. Bring along a trend of recognizing contemporary art and integrating art into people’s life, without a doubt, it will be a dream-come-true in the art world.
