Artist Statement:
As an architect, when I’m faced with a space that has 2.3 meters in depth, by 3 meters in height, this immediately leads me to think about minimum living areas. In more recent years, with the continuous and drastic increase in real estate prices, many people are finding it difficult to find affordable living conditions. However, we can find some typical local solutions that are practical case-studies of interest, such as the case of movable food stalls. In these street stalls, all working tools and equipment are integrated in the basic frame of the structure, making each unit easy to move, depending on the operational needs of the business. From this example, I got the inspiration to design a movable living space. This conceptual basis is reflected in the art installation that I’m presenting for this exhibition, in which I try to express the essence of an urban survival state that is non-fixed and without root. In an environment such as Macao’s that is constantly changing and deeply dynamic, visitors are invited to meditate about important urban development issues and the current housing conditions of the city.
