Cityzening
Date: 11 Oct - 10 Nov 2012

The University of the Philippines Vargas Museum presents Cityzening, one of the major exhibitions of Project Glocal 2012 BKK-HK-MNL-SG. It opens on October 11, Thursday, 6:00PM at the Lobby, West Wing Gallery and Basement of the museum. Cityzening is an exhibit of contemporary pieces reflecting on citizens as city dwellers. Cityzening is an organic life form of its own, a correspondence between the mental map of the city and the practices of its occupants that arises from various engagements and memories. Proposing answers to the questions “where do cityzens reside?”, the following artists from Manila, Bangkok, Hong Kong and Singapore impart their notions and experiences of city life: Anton del Castillo, Black Baroque Committee, Choon Lin Joo, Esther Yip Lai Man, Francis Yu, Irma Lacorte, Jaffa Lam, Urich Lau, Jason Wee, Jittagarn Kaewtinkoy, Kwok Hin Tang, Ling Nah Tang, Tam Wai Ping, Luke Ching, Mark Salvatus, Michael Lee, Mideo Cruz, Mimi Tecson, Preeyachanok Ketsuwan, Riel Hilario, Ruthairat Kumsrichan, Siu-Kee Ho, SongMing Ang, Thosapol Boriboon, Vichaya Mukdamanee, Wantanee Siripattananuntaku, Warawut Tourawong and Wesley Valenzuela.

Exhibit runs until 10 November. Jaffa Lam (Hong Kong), Vichaya Mukdamanee (Bangkok), Irma Lacorte (Manila) and Tang Ling Nah (Singapore) will have an Artists Talk at 4PM on October 11. Project Glocal 2012 is a cross cultural multi-locale art project that aims to engage city artists and their public in conversations about the global-local experience, phenomenon, opinions and challenges in cities, spearheaded and curated by Dayang Yraola.
