The 8th Edition of Arte Laguna Prize - Open Call
Date: 20 Jul - 26 Nov 2013

The 2013-14 edition of Arte Laguna Prize features many prestigious innovations:

“ARTIST IN RESIDENCE” PRIZES

The strong point of Arte Laguna Prize, the art residencies this year are 6 thanks to the introduction of two new partners. The Glass School Abate Zanetti in Murano, the Slovenian festival Art Stays, the marble company Miramarmi in Vicenza and the Mumbai residency will be sided by the historic artistic Foundry Battaglia in Milan, where the works by some of the greatest international artists such as Arnaldo Pomodoro and Giovanni Penone were created, as well as the collaboration with the city of Nurnberg, featuring a cultural exchange between Venetian and German artists.

“BUSINESS FOR ART” PRIZES

Into the Arte Laguna network, precisely among the “Business for Art” prizes, Riva 1920 has entered, the historic furniture company based in Cantù, which re-uses Venetian “briccole” – the poles indicating the safest routes to the boats in the lagoon – finding in this way the right balance between tradition and innovation, production and recycling. Through Arte Laguna Prize the artists are invited to present their ideas for the creation of an object in “briccola” wood coming from the Venetian lagoon, and then create it at the company. The object will be presented at Salone del Mobile in Milan in April 2014.

“ARTIST IN GALLERY” PRIZES

The 8th Arte Laguna Prize inaugurates a new collaboration formula with galleries, called “Artist in gallery”. Galleries are no longer 20, but 5, extremely well-selected and exclusively international galleries. The galleries will choose the artist with whom they will organize a personal exhibition accompanied by a grant of 500 Euros.

Artists can apply by 9th October 2013 (Deadline to apply also "Business for Art" and "Artist in Residence" Prizes) or 26 November 2013 for one or more of the five sections of the competition (painting, photographic art, sculpture and installation, performance and video art, virtual and digital art). The works will be evaluated and selected by a jury of international experts, including directors of foundations and museums and independent curators, and headed by Igor Zanti. The overall winners will be announced in March 2014 during the opening of the finalists exhibition at Venice Arsenale.

Participants can still win one of the 4 "Artist in gallery" prizes, the personal exhibitions in international galleries: Russia - ART re.FLEX Gallery; France - Galerie Charlot; Portugal - Carlos Carvalho; India - Exhibit320. Artists can also get to the final stage, including the exhibition, the catalogue and the awarding of cash prizes. Another opportunity dedicated to video artists, will be the possibility to show their works in Beijing in summer 2014 thanks to the collaboration with Art Nova 100.

The “Innovative Interactive Tour on Telecom Italia's Future Centre” has also been created, the new special prize born from the collaboration with Telecom Italia. This new special prize is open not only to artists, but also to architects and designers, who are asked to present an innovative idea for the fruition of the architectural spaces of the former convent of San Salvador in Venice, currently the venue of the Future Centre of Telecom Italia. The best project will be awarded in March 2014 with a prize of 5,000 Euros, to be used to carry out the project.

Moreover the ten finalist’s video artists will exhibit their works in the summer 2004 with Art Nova 100 – Beijing.

Art Nova 100 was first launched in September of 2011, and for its series of annual art exhibitions and promotion events, Art Nova 100 each year nominates about 100 artists from across China, as well as invites a small selection of international artists. All the artists are born in or after 1975 and work in a variety of media, including oil painting, sculpture, ink on paper, printmaking, photography and installation. The exhibition tour of these artists’ works takes place both in China and abroad. These exhibitions and their related events provide a large-scale promotion platform for the most promising young artists.
