Storytellers of the Town
Date: 14 Mar - 10 May 2014

Storytellers of the Town is a solo exhibition by Thai artist Araya Rasdjarmrearnsook. Araya is one of Thailand's foremost contemporary artists whose practice is concerned with the fundamental aspects of life and death, collective experiences of history and fate, and the configuring of self through the redeployment of everyday images and situations.

4A's exhibition includes works which span two decades and represent the artist's intimate and confronting meditations on the limits of the mind and body. The art of Araya attempts to find a visual language to represent her experience as a woman: a Thai person, a daughter and granddaughter, a teacher, and an individual who has experienced loss through the deaths of those close to her.

Storytellers of the Town is curated by John Clark and Clare Veal. The exhibition will tour to the ANU Drill Hall Gallery, Canberra where it will be accompanied by a new publication featuring essays by the curators and artist and published by 4A Centre for Contemporary Asian Art.
