Date: 26 Mar - 26 Jun 2011
This exhibition provides a comprehensive overview of Pu Tien-shen’s career by showcasing his representative figure sculptures along with his original and research-worthy oil paintings, pastel paintings and sketches. Born in Chiayi, Pu Tien-shen (1912-1996) showed his artistic talent at an early age. He went to Japan when he was young and studied under the reputed sculptor Asakura Fumio. After Pu returned to Taiwan, his style shifted from classicism to social realism and he soon became an icon of figure sculpturing in Taiwan. The year 2011 marks Pu’s 100th birthday and the exhibition is held in commemoration of this master sculptor.
