Date: 6 Nov 2010 - 27 Mar 2011
Born in Kaohsiung City in 1910, Chang Chi-hua was the first local artist to study art in Japan and hold a solo exhibition in Kaohsiung . He initiated art associations, such as Kaohsiung Fine Arts Research Association, and was a pioneer of Western painting in Kaohsiung , a rising city with underdeveloped level of artistic and cultural sophistication back then. Chang was also a dedicated art educator who enthusiastically helped to facilitate the setting-root and development of art in Kaohsiung . He died in hospital in 1987 at the age of 73. His family donated 131 pieces of his works to the KMFA in 1997. This year marks Chang’s 100th birthday and, therefore, this centennial exhibition is specially held to commemorate his contributions to Kaohsiung ’s development.
