My Favorites - Index of a Certain Collection: Selections from the MoMAK Collection
Date: 24 Mar - 5 May 2010
The Annex Museum of the National Museum of Modern Art in Tokyo became the National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto in 1967, with a collection of just three artworks in tow. This collection has grown to reach approximately 10,000 artworks and other objects as of March 2010. Amongst masterpieces of such fields as painting and crafts, there is an interesting group of works categorized as “Non-Category” (founded in the fiscal year of 1978/79) that cannot be characterized by the traditional categorization by technique or medium. There, art and architecture/design, sculpture and photography/film/video overlap and intersect in a variety of ways. The present exhibition will be centered on selections from these “Non-Category” works, accompanied by artworks and other materials from other categories that directly relate to these works, totaling in approximately 300 exhibits. Hope to introduce the story of this certain collection within the collection of the National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto.
