The Private Museum presents Zul: Sonically Exposed, a new body of works created over the past 3 years since Zul's last solo exhibiton in 2010. The established Singaporean sound artist will be presenting nine sound-reliefs, four sound sculptures,, a sound installation and sketches, which are part of his working process, for the first time.
Zul was formally trained as a sculptor and ventured into sound in 2006, creating multi-disciplinary works that combine visual and sound. He has conceptualized sound installations that define the denuded sense that few dare to explore. The artworks are bare; fixated on the amorphous medium produced. Each artwork also produces a different experience with the integration of the audience.
Zui will share about his approach to his sound practise in this exclusive artist talk. He will speak about his multi-disciplnary journey from sculpture to sound installations and finally sound sculptures. Zul will also give insights to the various sound artworks in the exhibition and how he continues to create sound installations that gravitates audiences to focus on the transparent medium.
Zulkifle Mahmod (ZUL) is at the forefront of a generation of sound-media artists in Singapore's contemporary art development. Adopting a multi-displinary/multi-genre approach that includes drawings, prints, sculptures and ready-mades, ZUL has exhibited internationally and is collected in Asia and Europe. ZUL was the first Singaporean sound artist with a sound installation at the Singapore Pavilion of the 52nd Venice Biennale 2007 and presented a sound art performance at the Ogaki Biennale in 2006.
