Artist(s): LIU Guangyun
Date: 26 Feb - 27 Mar 2011
This month, MOCA Loewen is proud to be hosting a solo exhibition by Liu Guangyun, the artist's first in Singapore. Entitled Surface, this collection of works is made up of a selection of Liu's output from the past two years. The artist has employed a number of innovative techniques in creating these works, the result of which is a series of images which appear to float in mid air, suspended in a pool of transparent resin. On the surface, these works possess a captivating, even haunting, beauty. Beneath this attractive facade however, lies a far more meaningful message. Through his creations, Liu comments on a society which strip people of their individual identity, seemingly valuing outward attractiveness over far more meaningful qualities. Liu attempts to look past this thin veneer of transient beauty in order to rediscover mankind's true worth.
