Edition(ed)
Date: 17 Jul - 20 Jul 2014

Art Galleries Association Singapore (AGAS) is proud to present its second annual exhibition, Edition(ed), held at Artspace@Helutrans. This year’s exhibition sees 23 participating galleries featuring over 70 works ranging from photographs to prints and sculptures to digital works by more than 30 artists. The works will be for sale and prices range between $300 and $83,000. The friendly characteristics of multiples and editions make this form of art very popular among budding collectors, but it has also found its way into prestigious museum collections around the world.

"Editions are great way to start a collection because it’s usually much more accessible both in terms of price and availability. It also allows first time collectors to acquire original works of art by important artists whose prices are usually very high,” says Emi Eu, director of STPI and vice president of the association. She cites the Print & Multiples department at the prestigious Museum of Modern Art, New York as an example which has over 53,000 works in its collection, “the art of collecting editions continues to be relevant as it is a serious, accessible art form where one would be able to own the same work that is in a museum collection.”

Ikkan Sanada of Ikkan Art International adds, “Editioned work is not necessarily a reproduction of original work. It has its own artistic merit and it presents a great opportunity for a collector who is just starting out because the price point is much more affordable.”

The exhibition’s focus on editioned works is an opportunity for collectors, art enthusiasts and students to discover the history and techniques of different mediums. It also plays host to a ‘Saturday Matinee’ programme, held on 19 July from 2 to 5 pm. There will be an exhibition walkthrough followed by a panel discussion on the history and currency of editions, from its origins in printmaking to new developments in contemporary practices together with Eitaro Ogawa, chief printer of STPI, Talenia Phua Gajardo, director of The Artling, Belinda Fox, artist and master printmaker and moderated by Benjamin Hampe of Chan Hampe Galleries.

The participating galleries are 11.12 Gallery, ARNDT, Art Forum, Artesan, Art Plural Gallery, Art Seasons, Art-2 Gallery, Cape of Good Hope Gallery, Chan Hampe Galleries, Element Art Space, Gajah Gallery, Galerie Belvedere, Galerie Steph, HaKaren Art Gallery, Ikkan Art International, iPRECIATION, Linda Gallery, Maya Gallery, Kato Art Duo (formerly Nikei Fine Art), SooBin Gallery, STPI, Wetterling Teo Gallery and Yang Gallery.
