Oppo-site: opposed site
Artist(s): Jihyun JUNG
Date: 30 May - 22 Jun 2014

The Room Season 3. 'Young Photography's second exhibition, 'Oppo-site: opposed site' by Jihyun Jung is held at Project Space The Room.

The exhibition explores an architecture as collective residential environment, today's living foundation and definition of each person's life.

Through the photo projects, 'Construction site,' and 'Demolition Site,' the artist focuses on a process of new and demolished architectures. After collecting such places, the artist categorizes them in three keywords, newly built place, torn down place, and intentionally left space. She visits and paints there in red. Red coloring, involving a sign for change and tension, reveals unrecognized and veiled process.

In the exhibition, construction and demolishing places are conflicted. The artist put indoor space at the new multi-functional complex from 'Construction Site' and demolishing space from 'Demolition Site' series together. Combines images look like one connected space. Such photo works raise interests in disappeared or hidden spaces.

Images in the artist's projects provide a time to think about hidden meanings in spaces we live in.
