Mijung Lee Solo Exhibition
Artist(s): Mijung LEE
Date: 16 Aug - 5 Sep 2013

As part of "OCI Young Creatives program', Mijing Lee solo exhibition is held. Painting, graphic image and installation about liberation and autonomy of oppressed self by the society are on display.

The artist disclosures structural delicacy and slackness of 'model student complex' made by social criterion 'award' and explores own values through self-respecting award. Also, as expressing 'sexuality' with amusement, a taboo subject, to reveal repressed human desire.

In this exhibition, sculpture and installation for self-award and sexuality, satirical print and painting are announced. 'The Wall' is the installation combining a mounting for photograph with a certificate-printed paper. Certificate decorated by gold hibiscus and phoenix overpowers the audience but actually the mounting is the loose and weaken structure, which present that 'award' is a monument of illusion.

Similarly 'the platform for self-respecting award' shows the stage without a statue. People can walk up the empty pedestal so that it becomes the monument for themselves. The artist removes the authority of the statue and leads to fill it with personal independence.

Mijing Lee breaks away from anxiety and frustration by uniform self-improvement and social norm, and seeks a way to selfsoothing for independent ego.
