2011 Asian Students and Young Artists Art Festival

2011 ASYAAF (Asian Students and Young Artists Art Festival), organized jointly by The Chosunilbo Daily and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will be held from July 27 till Aug. 22 at HOMA (Hongik Museum of Art), Hongik University.

ASYAAF is greeting its 4th exhibition since the first exhibition was held at the Seoul Station Old Building as a part of a The Chosunilbo Daily campaign, 'a house with pictures'. Some 140 thousand spectators have visited the exhibitions held 3 times, more than 3,000 pieces of works were sold and 500 SAM (Student Art Manager) who learn the roles of curators and art dealers were cultivated. Also, it became a big issue in the world of art positioning itself as the best art festival which not only artists and general people but also the whole domestic world of art including gallery workers and art critics are awaiting with keen interest.

The area around Hongik University where this exhibition is going to be held is a place which makes people to feet youth and freedom as welt as pure and hot passion for art more than any other places. '2011 ASYAAF' will provide young artists with a chance to express their creativity, experimental spirit and challenging spirit untouched as they are at Hongik University.

ASYAAF is a pure non-profit event of which the organizers do not pursue profit and is a festival of the whole world of art in Korea wherein artists, spectators, curators, critics, planners and collectors all meet together, communicate and participate. The fact that it is a complex event of culture and art is its characteristic which best differentiates it from other existing art contests and art fairs.

ASYAAF provides young artists with a chance to meet general spectators and figures from the world of art as well as a foothold to materialize their dreams. In the meantime, it teaches general spectators that art works are not exclusive properties of a few high class people but can be enjoyed and possessed by anyone by providing a chance to purchase strictly selected works at inexpensive price, Such changes achieved by efforts of ASYAAF will not be Limited to individuals but will promote advancement of the world of culture and art in Korea and contribute to expansion of the base for domestic fine arts by inducing communication between artists and the world of art including general people.

For this exhibition, Korea College Art Association which is a meeting of educators in charge of art education in college, Korean Art Critics Association, and Korea Print Photograph Promotion Association are participating as official sponsors.

Some 2,000 works of 777 promising artists of Korea and of each Asian country strictly screened by judges composed of the best specialists recommended by the director and planning members of '2011 ASYAAF' and the sponsoring organizations are planned to be sold in the exhibition.
