Tell Me Her Story
Artist(s): GROUP SHOW
Date: 17 Oct - 14 Dec 2013

10th Anniversary exhibition, 'Tell Me Her Story', is about a narrative of women's life on a boundary between fiction and nonfiction based on documentary, autobiographical novel, film and myth. According to such narrative, various contexts of women's life responding to current social issues, such as ethics for others, women's labor and separation, and violation of institutionalized system, will be discussed. Also, non-Western female artists as well as Western ones will tell about women's story as a 'difference' on history and culture.

Women's story in contemporary art usually reveals or overthrows patriarch ideology relating to the unequal gender identity. At the same time, as many female philosopher saying, femininity as 'plurality' and 'mobility' opened a chance to raise an issue for alternative women's story as liberated identity.

Beyond existing ideological context, the exhibition will talk about more active women who embrace others and violate the system in more extended filed. In addition, the huge wave, globalization and global neo-liberalism, can be another background to bring another women's story in terms of social context. Especially, Asian women's migrant labor and Korean women's diaspora in terms of Korean modern and contemporary history are also a part of main topic.

Ethics for others beyond insisting woman rights is one of the major issues in feminist art. Through a mix of real experience and fictional narrative, the art pieces signifying consideration, tolerance and ethics of others reminds of women's power and originality before patriarchal family order and summarize a direction of the exhibition.
