Contemporary artist's work makes a starting point of discussion for creative technology including visual beauty rather than aesthetic amusement. Whether it is beautiful or not, there is 'a problem of survival' in the middle of the man-made technology. In addition, according to 'evolutionary psychology', art is not a value as surplus activity after survival, but it is to intensify the technology for survival. Universal effort people have and by-products are being produced constantly. Ilmin museum of art tries to make an opportunity to discuss about what artists are doing specifically relating to problems of existence.
Soyoung liilliil Kang, Hojung Song, Doojin Ahn, Will Kim and Soyoung Chung suggest creative technology for survival respectively in various ways, painting, video and installation. In this exhibition, phrase from a novel 'Galapagos' will be displayed with artworks. 'Galapagos'(Kurt Vonnecut, 1985) is the SF novel describing that people traveling Galapagos evolved into a fish after extinction of human being by meteorite to survive. The technology through art supports in primary activities, such as food, a house, or environmental danger, and intensify survival. Thus, primary activities in the novel connecting with technologies the author mentioned will show an interesting form of relationship between art and survival.
The artists don't suggest logical way to maintain a life in a secluded situation or focus on extreme emotion. Instead, each artwork and a collection of these will be a role to design creative method.
