Liquid Times
Artist(s): GROUP SHOW
Date: 20 Mar - 11 May 2014

'Korea-China Contemporary artist exhibition' is in collaboration with Songzhuang Art Center and White Box Museum of Art, presenting 6 Korean contemporary artists and 6 leading Chinese artists.

The title 'Liquid Times' reflects on 'Liquid' determined by a sociologist Zygmunt Bauman as a characteristic of the contemporary society. Bauman thinks the modern era started as the past system with solidity melted. The modern time period pursuing liquidity had a purpose for the rational society but hid the strategy to set newly advanced things in a fluxed place. The problem is even ethics and morals, human ties, and resistant spirit melted. He supposed that the fluxed contemporary society has uncertainty and instability but opens a possibility to create a balanced relationship without center. Thus, the subject can break up or resist enforced standard or rule in the society and be possible to socially express for overcoming own identity.

The participating artists in the exhibition try to solve various conflicts around the world with imagination, or make excluded class from the society prove their values by themselves. Also, the artists raise a question for a way to 'see' which means western-oriented values, or they try to reflect Asian life struggling with the sudden introduction of Western culture or restore abandoned values in the past. The exhibition will show the attitudes as the artist reacting to such unstable phenomenons of today.
