Nordic Passion: Northern European Architecture and Design
Artist(s): GROUP SHOW
Date: 22 Oct 2013 - 16 Feb 2014

Jointly with Sonoann Organization, which has been holding exhibits related to Northern European designs at several distinguished museums both domestically and abroad, the Seoul Museum of Art holds an exhibit of Northern European architecture and design containing the philosophy of five Northern European countries. At present, changing the direction of public architecture and design is becoming a hot issue in Korea. It is partly due to the fact that public architecture and designs are important factors in realizing considerations, genuine happiness, and welfare for the future generation. Through this exhibition, the Seoul Museum of Art and Sonoann Organization seek to provide an opportunity for visitors to think about our future generation while introducing architecture and designs that reflect the philosophy of five European countries.

Titled NORDIC PASSION: Northern European Architecture and Design, this exhibition is an international exchange program based on the long-term research on Northern Europe and Korea by art director Amie Ann (representative of Sonoann Organization). It will serve as a venue for exchange and meeting participated in by several educational agencies, architects, designers, and artists from Finland, Denmark, Norway, Island, and Sweden. The exhibition itself will be a vital point of contact wherein Northern Europeans’ philosophy, design concept, and social innovation will be shared with visitors. Against the backdrop of Northern Europe’s architecture and design, which emphasize simple form and function, a vision for our future generation is presented from the perspective that emphasizes the equality of human race and the natural ecosystem. In addition, the form of today’s Northern European schools is actively fostering an educational environment that converges with home and society. As such, visitors can personally see the design of Northern European schools at the exhibit.

Along with the exhibit, art educational programs such as various workshops, performances, and lectures will be offered in and out of the museum. Programs by Northern European art education professionals will be presented in collaboration with Korea’s various educational agencies and social groups. Such programs will play an important role in developing practical educational programs for future generations.
