Artist(s): GROUP SHOW
Date: 30 Jul - 18 Aug 2013

To celebrate the opening of project gallery for alternative and experimental contemporary art, Seoul Museum of Art will be screening media art collection, 'Video Fever: Screening, Live Performance and Talk'.

The screening program covers very familiar medium, video. The time when the video has established as an independent genre of arts was late 1960s. Comparing to a traditional medium, video art's reliance on technology was high so that it has been developed along with technical progress. 'Video Fever: Screening, Live Performance and Talk' is to see the various development of video art through showing the single channel videos of four world-class artists.

Among media collection of the museum, some parts of 'Point of View: An Anthology of Moving Image’(2003), interviews with 11 world-leading video artists for their art works and process, were selected. There are art works of four artists - Gary Hill, who studies of a relationship between language and digital image through video as a new type of writing, Joan Jonas, who selects the video as a tool of expressing her action, Pipilotti Rist, who raised a question for gender, woman's body and sexual difference in the modern society with dreamlike music and image installation, and Issac Julien, who made a documentary about the artist's identity. With screening the videos of these artists, there will be a video of the interview with famous curators, Dan Cameron and Hans Ulrich Obrist, to help understanding of the artists and art works. Also, live performance by young contemporary artists and talk session will provide a chance to look back the meaning of video art in terms of contemporary art and its influence.
