As a part of the Tokyo Culture Creation Project, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and the Tokyo Metropolitan Foundation for History and Culture, the “Roppongi Art Night 2013” will be held all night from 10:00 on Sat. March 23 to 18:00 on Sun. March 24, 2013

Roppongi Art Night is a single night feast of art set in the streets of Roppongi. The streets of Roppongi, with its concentration of various commercial and cultural facilities, will be filled with a variety of works of art, and of design, music, video and performances, creating an extraordinary experience for visitors, and a different feel for Roppongi.

Roppongi Art Night 2013, being held for the 4th time since 2009, has a theme of “TRIP － Witness today’s transformation into tomorrow”. With an artistic director introduced for the first time this year, artist Katsuhiko Hibino has commissioned artists to give form and action to the phrases of “excursions of time and space", "elation of seeing the morning after the night before", and "thought for disaster-stricken regions beyond time and space" developing a variety of programs for everyone that visits Roppongi.

In the Roppongi Hills Arena, the centerpiece of Roppongi Art Night, “TRIP  Project” will be revealed. This work of art is a “lighthouse” monument by Katsuhiko Hibino, the artistic director . This serves as a signpost for this year’s theme of “TRIP － Witness today’s transformation into tomorrow”.

In addition, a part of the main project, the “Art Boat Project” will combine about 10 up and coming artists with Katsuhiko Hibino, who will decorate the boat, exhibit their work, and use the boat as a performance stage, as the “Art Boat”, rich with individuality, moves through Roppongi. Also, artists and emerging professionals in various circles will come together for the “Roppongi Night Party”, young artists will display videos, installations and sculptures through the streets of Roppongi as part of the “Art Port Roppongi”, and various performances will take place as the parks in Roppongi becomes a stage for the “Performance in the Park” (tentative name), filling the Roppongi night with a variety of special programs.
