Artist(s): KIYOKATA Kaburaki
Date: 18 Nov 2009 - 11 Jan 2010
Kiyokata Kaburaki was a master of modern nihonga painting. In an artistic career that spanned the Meiji to Showa periods, he was inspired by the beauty that he found in the Edo period flavor remaining in people's daily lives, expressing it through a unique atmosphere in fuzokuga genre paintings (paintings of everyday customs and manners). This exhibition focuses on Kiyokata's nostalgia, a fondness for the good things from past times, presenting many of his best-known works and examining the attraction that they hold.
