Solo Exhibition of Lin Yu Sheng---Unconventional Art Class [Attic Gallery]

The residency plan of Lin You Sheng at Treasure Hill Artist Village from January to June in 2012 is based on the elementary school textbook of Art in 1968.  Through a series of workshops interacting with the participants, the artist redid the art lessons introduced in the national curriculum tens of years ago and intends to identify the issues of the fundamental education of Art in Taiwan. Art classes were normally replaced by other subjects due to the neglect of the art education in the 70s and 80s. The neglect of art education in the national curriculum influenced the general value and definition toward aesthetic in Taiwan nowadays. The artist inspected the national education of Art 40 years ago through the residency plan.

Via simulation and reproduction, participants from all ages were encouraged to take the lessons of Art in the textbook tens of years ago. From taking the reproduced lessons, participants rethink the association of art with themselves.  Participants with or without the experience in the early artistic education are all able to approach art practice in the reproduced lessons. It is the aesthetic education of today.

Solo Exhibition of Tsai Chueh Lin---Three-year-old Birthday Party [Cross Gallery]

Each birthday party plan represents a lesson for the artist to learn in each period of age. It symbolizes a lesson to learn to grow and to realize the knowledge of life from the artist’s fear and anxiety by sharing her work of art as celebrating a birthday.

It has become the third year of the birthday party plan and the artist is hoping to learn to throw away the bridle and to reconcile herself to each transition of life. When the dogged persistence is erased, there is room for energy and ideas. The audience does not need to quests for the meaning behind the story, but to open the sensation to the experience at the moment when viewing the work. The viewer will become a guest of the party celebrating the third year with the artist when no efforts were required in seeking the meaning behind the story.
