Photo Taipei is pleased to announce that its 2nd edition will take place between 17-19 December, 2010 at Sunworld Dynasty Hotel in Taipei. Continuing on with last year’s debut success, this year Photo Taipei will welcome a fine selection of galleries from not only Taiwan but also China, Germany, Japan, Korea and Spain. Along with three thematic feature exhibitions, Photo Taipei 2010 is ready to present artwork of quality and diversity in lively arranged spaces, as well as a forum consisting of six intellectually stimulating talks.
It is a great pleasure of ours to invite Mr. TSAI Ming-Liang to be the guest of honor at Photo Taipei. Mr. Tsai has just been awarded Golden Owl Award at Leeds International Film Festival in recognition of his brilliant achievements as a filmmaker. Mr. Tsai’s «Madame Butterfly», a short film completed in 2009, will open Photo Taipei at the grand opening reception and will be showcased during the art fair.
For another feature exhibition this year, well-known German curator Andrea Walther brings exciting German photography and video works to two different booths: CooperARTive and Showroom. The former features eight emerging German artists, all of whom cover a theme of travel in the work. The latter boasts three outstanding German photographers, including Frank Breuer, a student of the established photographer Hilla Becher. In parallel, Photo Taipei presents the third feature exhibition on local Taiwanese video artists, enabling international exchanges between ideas and thoughts.
Moreover, Mr. Goto Shigeo, who participated at Photo Taipei in 2009 with photographer Ninagawa Mika (Ninamika), is going to present TOKYO FRONTLINE, a newly conceived art fair in Tokyo with an emphasis on emerging artists, to Taiwanese audience. Being the Director of G/P Gallery and a professor at Kyoto University of Art and Design, Mr. Goto plays an important role in Japanese contemporary photography, art and the publishing circles. He selects an array of notable emerging Japanese artists to participate at Photo Taipei 2010 from the shortlist of TOKYO FRONTLINE. Therefore, all the visitors to the art fair will exclusively enjoy a preview from TOKYO FRONTLINE.
A combination of art and charity is another highlight at this year’s Photo Taipei: Photo Exhibition of Celebrity for Charity. All the proceeds of sale from this section will be donated to ArtsCharity’s project for children’s art education in remote areas in Taiwan. While appreciating the beauty of art, Photo Taipei also invites the public to show their supports for a good cause.
With the confidence gained from last year’s favorable reviews, Photo Taipei has the vision to create a dynamic platform in Asia for photo-based/video art at an international level.
