Love for the Homeland - Oil Painting Exhibition of Yan Juntai Couple
Date: 19 Jun - 22 Jun 2010

From June 19 to 23, 2010, Taiwan's famous painting couple, Yan Juntai and Xu Wantian will give their first exhibition in their motherland - Love for the Homeland –Oil Painting Exhibition of Yan Juntai Couple at NAMOC.

Yan Juntai is currently the chairman of the Board of the Taiwan BES Engineering Corporation, and his father, Yen Chia-kan was the president of Taiwan. Taiwan's "Ten Major Construction Projects" promoted by Yen Chia-kan laid the foundation for Taiwan's economic development, while he was keen on photography and was also a well-known connoisseur. Affected by his father, Yan Juntai also served Taiwan by studying science and made outstanding achievements. Yan Juntai started his art creation when he was almost sixty and became a rare artist with his chairman identity in Taiwan. The reason he learned painting is due to his family history and also due to his wife Xu Wantian.

Mrs. Yan, born in a Xiluo prominent family of Zhanghua County in Taiwan, started learning painting under Li Zhongsheng the father of modern painting in Taiwan and then went to the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts & Music in Japan. Xu Wantian was also taught by Mr. Liu Haisu. Mrs. Yan has a unique study on the floriculture, so she likes to paint flowers. Her paintings are simple and natural, elegant and unique. Yan Juntai gave birth to interest by watching the painting of his wife, served as assistant at first, then personally tried, and finally developed his own abstract painting. The couple often painted jointly and agitated each other's inspiration. However, Mrs. Yan volunteered to act as a supporting role with the increasing painting maturity of Yan Juntai, reflecting their deep love.

Yan Juntai gave a perfect combination in painting of his rational scientific thinking in the engineering field and his rich sensibility. Yan Junthai’s paintings are full of dynamics, strength, color flows, changes, and blending, and present the heart of the artist which was called as the "landscape in heart". Although using the Western painting as the language carrier, his paintings are filled with the far-reaching oriental meditation. Due to his reading classics and listening to Peking opera and Tanci in his childhood, Yan Juntai naturally named his paintings after the Chinese poetry. The paints on the canvas present the emotion of Chinese. Ms Zhou Gongxin the president of the Taipei National Palace Museum commented: "The works of Mr. Yan Juantai, whether they are the stars in the sky, maple in autumn, blue ocean waves or cherry in the spring, are the contemplation on nature and the true feeling of heat."

The exhibition will show 90 masterpieces of the couple, 77 pieces for Mr. Yan Juantai and 13 for his wife. Mr. Yan focuses on abstraction and Mrs. Yan on concreteness; Mr. Yan’s paintings are generous and Mrs. Yan’s paintings graceful. Viewers can also see the special art course of the two artists from their paintings: Although living in Taiwan and overseas many years, but they still inherit the aesthetics of the traditional Chinese literati families, the beauty captured in daily life also nourish and accomplish their art.
