Depicting Spirit with Brush and Ink, Integrating and Innovating
Artist(s): SHI Qi
Date: 28 Mar - 5 Apr 2010

An art exhibition by Shi Qi, a renowned painter in China, will be held in three of the galleries at the first floor of NAMOC (National Art Museum of China) on Mar 28th. It is sponsored by Dalian Wanda Group, a famous enterprise in China. This exhibition features about a hundred masterpieces from the 1960’s to now, and some of them are as long as 3 to 5 meter long. Visitors will feel the power of the spirit depicted by Shi Qi’s brush.

Shi Qi, born in Fuqing County, Fujian Province, is a professional painter at Beijing Art Academy, prof artist of National Level 1 and master of traditional Chinese painting renowned for works with both traditional and modern styles. His long art practice is devoted to making innovations in traditional paintings. At his middle age, he put forward two theories on painting art form, which are “Integrating Three Painting Styles” (i.e., realism, impressionism and abstractionism) and “Multi-faceted Traditional Chinese Painting”, thus producing a brand-new modern style of his works.

During the past half century since the 1960’s, his constant quest for breakthroughs in subject, composition, color and painting techniques has brought, integrated and absorbed fresh elements into traditional Chinese paintings from all aspects. As we can see, his styles at different times moved from “boldness”, towards “powerfulness” and “poetic imagery”. His art pieces have already led us into a realm of “Neo-Traditional Chinese Painting” with glorious magnanimity, vigorous brush strokes, strong and rich colors, powerful composition as well as his courage and boldness to “pull the tradition forward”.  We believe this exhibition will bring the world a brand new perspective and comprehension of Shi Qi’s painting art.
