Painted Life

The “Painted Life——Qiao Shiguang’s Lacquer Art Retrospective Exhibition& Seminar sponsored by National Art Museum of China, Academy of Arts & Design Tsinghua University, China Artists Association and China Arts and Crafts Association will be grandly held in National Art Museum of China at 12:00 noon during March 17 to 25.

Qiao Shiguang is an important representative of Chinese contemporary lacquer painting, he experienced the whole process of lacquer-art going from folk to colleges and universities and finished the Lacquer-art volume as the Nine Five-Year Plan teaching material for advanced art education, which lays the foundation for the lacquer-art discipline in Academy of Arts & Design Tsinghua University and the Country.  

He had participated in the lacquer painting movement of above 10 years and made lacquer painting reach a higher level to become an independent art form. In addition, he  created hundreds of works and formed the orient style of lacquer painting, showing unique charm of lacquer painting.   

The “Painted Life” of Qiao Shiguang shows that he is not only a founder of lacquer-art discipline and a practitioner of lacquer art, but also a lacquer culture protector with humanist quality. His creation, research and activities cross discipline foundation, lacquer paintings creation and lacquer culture development and other fields. It is particularly valuable to maintain the art form with a national’ unique language in the cultural renaissance times, the “Painted Life” reflects how a traditional culture becomes a new tradition and a new language through an individual’s efforts in tens of years, and it will be a far-reaching and important exhibition in the history of Chinese lacquer painting.
