Three Gorges: Living the Dream
Artist(s): OUYANG Weihong
Date: 6 Mar - 19 Mar 2010

Mr. Ouyang Weihong was astonished and touched by the magnificence of the project when he worked, as its financial supervisor, side by side with the constructors. In his spare time he felt the impulse to record the images of the projects in an artistic way. Thereafter, he made a dozen visits to the dam site, capturing with his camera the on-going project from all its best possible angles regardless of hardships such as getting up at dawn, staying outside late at night, suffering hot weather and hungry. Thus there come a large number of spectacular photographs with unique aesthetics in form and visual impact. From the angle of a participant, his works are a recreation of the splendor of the project, a presentation of the significant achievements of modernization since China’s reform and opening-up in the late 1980’s, and an exposition of the Chinese national spirit of endeavor and perseverance of the constructors. All the photographs are in deed highly valuable historic images from unique artistic angles.

The collection themed Three Gorges: Living the Dream is the essence of the Ouyang Weihong’s artistic creation for over 10 years. We carefully chose part of it for the exhibition here in the hope to bring the audience before the Three Gorges Project to feel the magnificence and share the joyfulness when the dream comes true.
