Inspiration from Plateau: Chinese fine arts exhibition
Date: 13 Nov - 30 Nov 2009

The year 2009 marks both the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and the 50th anniversary of democratic reforms in Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR), China. To commemorate the great historic breakthroughs and brilliant achievements in TAR, we have organized the largest art exhibition focusing on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau ever since 1949. This event is one of the "Reporting to the Motherland" activities to celebrate the 60th anniversary, sponsored by the circle of literature and art. Opening of the exhibition will be held in November 13.

This exhibition brings together a wide range of public and private collections, including classic works at different periods of fines arts of New China, such as the “Tibet in Spring” by Dong Xiwen, the “Song of Emancipation”by Pan Shixun, and the “Plateau Song” by Zhan Jianjun. It also includes precious posthumous works such as the “Xiahe Sketch” by Ye Qianyu, as well as new works such as the “Stockade Village is Still Beautiful” by Xu Kuang, showing the vigorous development of the Tibetan-theme fine arts and prosperous history of diversified contemporary art in the past six decades. The exhibition is a presentation and reflection on the process of contemporary diversification and prosperity.  It is also a review and summary of the Chinese fine arts creations on the themes of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and the Tibetans during the 20th century.
