Painting of Shanyue- art exhibition celebrating 100th anniversary of Guan Shanyue’s birth

This exhibition shows the latest achievements in contemporary Guan Shanyue study as the most complete display of artistic creation of Mr. Guan Shanyue in his life. With the course of artistic exploration of Mr. Guan as the mainline, the exhibition displays representative works in each period in three parts, along with over 190 pieces of manuscripts, letters, books and periodicals, newspaper cuttings, photos and other literatures, attempts to present the artistic journey of Mr. Guan as a master of Chinese painting and his interests as an ordinary person with material objects, multi media, scene reproduction and other means.

As the disciple of Gao Jianfu, founder of Lingnan School, Guan Shanyue(1912—2000)was familiar with the painting idea of “compromising China and West, fusing all times”, and emphasized the theory of social function of reflecting real life and serving the public. After the new China was founded, he advocated the artistic idea of “painting with the times”, “destroying the old and establishing the new, continuing with the past and opening up the future” to explore the development and innovation of traditional Chinese paintings.
