Art Exhibition of Wang Xia

Wang Xia, a paintress, attracted attention in the painting world with Island Girl, an oil painting with distinctive characteristics of the time in her youth. As a student of Dong Xiwen Studio in the 1950s, she had the fortune to receive the guidance and instruction of Mr Dong in person, which made her benefit a lot and persist in artistic creation in hardships to create works with distinctive characteristics of the time and individual characters with the painting language of realism.

Over fifty years later, Wang Xia came to Beijing with her paintings she put efforts into for “Art Exhibition of Wang Xia” to show her persistence in and adherence to art in over half a century to her teachers, painters, friends and audiences with her works. From A Beijing Boy Holding a Kite, Island Girl, Time of Midday Nap to The Mountaineer Leading Me into the Mountain, Autumn Morning in Tibet, all reveal her creation of artistic image with affinity and appeal extracted from ordinary life with the sensitive and exquisite perspective of a paintress and unrestrained brushwork, showing proficient skills for oil painting.

This exhibition collects part of oil paintings and gouaches of the painter, which are her achievement in borrowing two painting languages and giving full play to creative potential in creation. These works imply the sincere and simple feelings of Wang Xia at different stages of artistic creation, reveal her love for and relentless pursuit of art, and will definitely leave a solid artistic imprint.

Wang Xia comes from Qingdao, Shandong. She graduated from Dong Xiwen Studio of Central Academy of Fine Arts in 1961. She was engaged in art education at Zhengzhou Art College, Kaifeng Normal University and Nanjing Normal University successively. Now, in her seventies, she still regards “painting as her only” and keeps painting.
