Zhao Xiaohai adopts an objectification way and unique visual explanation with combination of reality and illusion to approach and enter modern ink. Therefore, his works are not so featured in inclination, experiment and order like works of modern pure ink painters. Instead, his works just stay at a blurry state. However, his works express property of modern ink in cultural directing, conception expression and language view with conception occurrence as lead.

On the other side, when he approaches to modern times, he also has deep affection to traditional arts and specially appreciates various landscapes appearing in the arts history; he is absorbed in explaining the meaning loaded in traditional and rich culture, studies landscape painting and is never tired of drawing language symbols that he is most familiar with. His traditional technical is very firm, which decides that although he inclines to modern ink, he is not deep involvement.
