Light from Light
Date: 29 Apr - 30 Jun 2011

Light from Light, an exhibition of light-inspired and light-generating contemporary artworks from China and Australia will be launched in Beijing on the 29th of April 2011.  The exhibition brings a collection of neon art objects, light-sculptures, sounds generated by the sun and illuminated texts to two venues: the National Library of China and the National Art Museum of China.

The National Art Museum of China will exclusively host an outdoor solar-powered sculpture, Light from Light, by acclaimed Australian artists Janet Burchill and Jennifer McCamley. Meanwhile, recent artworks by Eugene Carchesio, David Haines & Joyce Hinterding, Lin Tianmiao, Archie Moore, Grant Stevens, Josef Strau, Pak Sheung Chuen, Wang Gong Xin, Zhang Peili and Wang Peng will be placed in the National Library of China’s collections areas, reading spaces, and other spaces that are not usually used for exhibitions.

The exhibition reflects on the multi-dimensionality of light: it is a fundamental life-sustaining energy source, a powerful physical property, a trope of the dynamic modern city, as well as a metaphor for both rational thought and spirituality. Accordingly, the artworks interpret and use light in very different ways.
