Asia Art Archive Annual Fundraiser 2011
Date: 11 Nov - 19 Nov 2011

Asia Art Archive (AAA), the largest public repository of material about contemporary art in Asia and the region’s foremost platform for research and dialogue, will hold its annual fundraising auction and dinner on 19 November 2011, with a preview of works at Sotheby’s Hong Kong from 14 to 18 November. The annual auction is a major source of support for AAA’s operations and programmes, giving art collectors access to a range of 68 significant works by internationally recognised artists this year. All funds raised throughout the evening will go towards AAA’s goal of providing access for all to its extensive resources.

‘One of AAA’s priorities in the past few years has been working toward making our collection more accessible to the public,’ said AAA Executive Director Claire Hsu. ‘In 2010, we began work on a new website which will launch in spring 2012 along with the Collection Online, a new database platform which will gradually make as much of AAA’s collection as possible publicly accessible globally well into the future.’

Auction highlights include an ink painting by Wu Guanzhong dated to the early 80’s, a TV installation by Nam June Paik, a work from the ‘Flower’ series by Takashi Murakami, a photo-installation by Raqs Media Collective, a set of prints responding to the serial bomb in Bombay by Nalini Malani, a photo diptych by Gu Dexin, a print by Zeng Fanzhi, and a set of posters entitled Hong Kong Art Archive produced by Wong Wai Yin during her residency at AAA.

See the 2011 AAA Auction catalogue at www.aaa.org.hk/fundraiser2011 from 11 November onwards.

The dinner is sold out but all works will be on view at Sotheby’s Hong Kong from 14-18 November or online. AAA accepts absentee or phone bids.
