Fine Art Asia 2013
Date: 4 Oct - 7 Oct 2013

Fine Art Asia 2013, recognised by the international art world as Asia’s leading annual fine art fair, returns to the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre from Friday 4th to Monday 7th October, with a VIP Preview and Vernissage on Thursday 3rd October.

Fine Art Asia 2013 is pleased to announce its new Chinese name '典亞藝博', which expresses in a more precise and elegant way the essence of the fair, Fine Art and Asia. The fair will again create a high-quality platform for the international art world, with an 8,000-square-metre exhibition space showcasing an array of fine art from both East and West, presented by 100 world-renowned galleries.

Fine Art Asia is the pioneer of the art fair business in Asia. With its curatorial expertise and rich experience in the Asian and international art markets, the Hong Kong-based fair has gained recognition as a global brand. As Hong Kong has developed into one of the top art auction centres in the world, the number of exhibitors at Fine Art Asia has soared five-fold, reaching over 100 in 2011. Since its debut in 2006, the fair has also attracted a steadily increasing attendance, contributing to a ten-fold increment in sales by 2012.

First-ever partnership with Masterpiece London:

The Hong Kong Pavilion Fine Art Asia will soon complete its first 10 editions and enter a second decade of excellence. The fair is pleased to announce a ground-breaking partnership with Masterpiece London 2013.

Fine Art Asia 2013 will sponsor and present a Hong Kong Pavilion at the 4th edition of Masterpiece London to be held from 26 June to 3 July 2013. A European Pavilion will in turn be sponsored and presented by Masterpiece London 2013 at Fine Art Asia 2013 in October.

This marks a new era and emphasises the important role of Fine Art Asia in the international art world. Co-Chairman and Director, Mr. Calvin Hui said, “The new relationship forged between Fine Art Asia and Masterpiece London will expand the exhibition platform for galleries in Asia and Europe. The first-ever European Pavilion also reflects and strengthens our resolve to initiate and develop long-term goals: to introduce a wide variety of Western museum-quality fine art for Asian collectors, so as to take fine art collecting in Asia to the next level.”

Nazy Vassegh, CEO for Masterpiece London added, “We are pleased to initiate this dynamic programme at Masterpiece Arts Fair this June highlighting the longstanding cultural relationship between the East and West where Hong Kong and London have long been the principal market drivers. Visitors to Masterpiece London will welcome the opportunity to see outstanding examples of oriental works of art, antique and contemporary, that celebrate Chinese culture. In return we look forward to working with the Masterpiece exhibitors to create an impressive pavilion in Hong Kong this autumn that will showcase rare and exquisite European works of art.”

Official Hotel Partner: Grand Hyatt Hong Kong

Fine Art Asia 2013 is delighted to have Grand Hyatt Hong Kong as its Official Hotel Partner. The partnership will include a series of fine art programmes, as well as exclusive accommodation benefits for exhibitors and guests at the fair.

The first art event is a group exhibition “A Feast for the Eyes” to be held at Grand Hyatt Hong Kong from 16 April to 18 May 2013, featuring a collection of artworks that are pleasing to both the heart and the eye, in perfect harmony with the classically modern interior setting of Grand Hyatt Hong Kong. The exhibition will inspire the public through a delightful display of art works that embodies the spirit of springtime.

Francois Curiel, President, Christie’s Asia, commented, “Fine Art Asia is a unique international event in Hong Kong and the region, which combines art and antiques of quality from both East and West. The 8th edition organised in October 2012 presented a perfect balance between a wide range of specialties, from Asian arts to Old Master pictures and 19th Century paintings, works of art, jewellery, watches, silver and even rare books. Despite its growing success, the fair remains an accessible platform for professionals as well as newcomers to the art world, with a strong human dimension, making it easy and pleasurable to discover rare collectible items from all over the world.”

Hong Kong is the focal point of the art market in Asia and one of the top three art auction centres in the world, along with New York and London. It plays a vital role in the global art market. Fine Art Asia 2013 provides the perfect platform for international galleries who can cater to the rapidly expanding number of knowledgeable collectors in Asia.

Floris van der Ven, Director of Vanderven Fine Art, The Netherlands, said, “Hong Kong is geographically the centre between Beijing, Taiwan, Singapore, and Vietnam [and] has civil rules and import regulations that are easy to handle. Hong Kong is the most important platform in Asia for doing business in antiques. Fine Art Asia plays a vital role here, because this is the fair that has the highest quality of dealers on offer in Asia.”

Andy Hei, Founder, Co-Chairman and Director of Fine Art Asia 2013, said, “We are proud that Fine Art Asia 2013 will once again attract the world’s leading fine art dealers. The art market is now truly global and Asia is arguably its most exciting and dynamic stage both now and for the future.”

Calvin Hui, Co-Chairman and Director of Fine Art Asia 2013 also commented, “With the careful selection of galleries, a steady broadening of exhibition categories, and the exciting partnership programs, we are confident that Fine Art Asia will build on its past success and the growing international esteem in which it is held. We believe that Fine Art Asia 2013 will build on its position as Asia’s leading international fine art fair and reinforce the crucial role of Hong Kong as the hub of the art market in Asia.”
