The Sovereign Art Foundation has announced the names of the artists short-listed for its sixth annual Asian Art Prize. Entry is by nomination only by one of the Foundation’s network of art experts.
This is the second year the prize has accepted work in all 2D media. The entries demonstrated the exciting and contemporary range of practices occurring within these mediums.
The works of the 30 finalists will be exhibited at the Rotunda, Exchange Square from the 18th to the 23rd of January 2010.
During the exhibition the judges will choose the winner of the US$25,000 prize who will be announced by the Chairman of The Sovereign Group, Howard Bilton, at the gala auction on the 27th January at the Four Seasons Hong Kong. The evening is sure to be one of the high-lights of the social calendar not least due to the generous sponsorship by Pal Zileri. During the evening the remaining 29 finalists will be auctioned by Sotheby’s and the proceeds split between the artists and the Foundation.
Voting to select the winner of the US$1,000 public vote prize has already commenced on the Foundation’s website. Votes can also be cast at the exhibition. This prize will also be presented on the night of the auction.
