When New Vision meets New Media Exhibition
Date: 14 Oct - 27 Oct 2010

An innovative showcase of ideas and visual enterprise New media art, which draws together technology and the arts, often seeks to penetrate urban life. This exhibition reveals the intriguing relationships between technology, art and the society in the age of networked culture, where people around the world are connected with each other through various forms of media.

The exhibition showcases the latest development in digital and interactive designs through the angle of exploring the idea of New Visual Experience of four works from screen-based generative animation to per -formative interactive setup are selected. Karsten Schmidt brings us his fascinating generative animation work Unstable Energy. Karsten, an early contributor in processing.org and open-source programming language, continues to explore the possibility of designing through interdisciplinary practice. Stockspace by Marius Watz will illustrate the power of data visualization; this work has transformed the electronic networks of stock trading to an aesthetic exploration and presentation.

Two interactive works will help bringing new insights on visual experience. Optical Handlers –"eeyee" by Eric Siu, an optical device which literally splits users' vision into two and relocates it onto their hands separately, creates an experimental situation for them to interact with the environment. A commissioned artwork B-LINK by Honhim Cheung will explore the idea of how a simple blink can control visual experience and perception. Blink is the first two seconds of looking, which leads to a decisive thought that knows in an instant. The work creates a new type of dilemma to the audience while controlling their vision through a simple blink; a blink to control the visual is a blink to make the users miss the visual changes that controlled by that blink at the same time.

New ways of seeing, interacting and communicating construct a new visual experience.
