Calligraphic Meditation: The Mindful Art of Thich Nhat Hanh
Date: 3 Nov 2010 - 9 Jan 2011

An exhibition of Zen calligraphy entitled "Calligraphic Meditation : The Mindful Art of Thich Nhat Hanh" will take place at the University Museum and Art Gallery of The University of Hong Kong from 3 November 2010 to 9 January 2011. This unique event is the successful cooperation between the Museum and the European Institute of Applied Buddhism in Germany.

Thich Nhat Hanh is a world-renowned Buddhist monk. This is the first time that his calligraphy is made accessible to the public eye. The exhibition displays the calligraphic works of his inspiring poems, hand-written scripts and book covers. All these serve a common purpose to reveal the philosophy of Zen Buddhism.

The exhibition aims at introducing a path towards compassion, internal harmony and enlightenment through the meditative impact of Zen calligraphy. The master's calligraphy is the crossroad where body and mind come together. Thich Nhat Hanh attempts to combine the beauty of traditional Zen teachings with Western philosophy. The display gives a shape and meaning to the term "mindful art". It is the art of finding the Buddha in our life.
