Ink on rice paper, inkpad
Everyone has memory about the environment where he stays. The memory includes personal experiences and the time that nobody can evade. A city, she attracts and contains so many people to settle down, meanwhile shows her tempting female beauty to people who came for her fame. Photos are memorial records, which allow people who share the same memory to identify themselves while looking at them.
I started this experiment since 2004. But I didn’t really apply it until this year. That is to revert the digital photos back to pixel points at different sizes, and to collaborate with people who live in the areas which are showed in the paintings. I use human being’s fingerprints instead of chemical: this is a technique in between the photo darkroom and painting production, and also the memory of collectivity towards its living space. In this modern time, the changing of environment is faster than the changing of human being’s memory.
