AVIADO Virgillio "Pandy" biography | artworks | events

Virgillio has mastered printmaking techniques from woodcut to color etching and is also involved in animation and experimental films. He was among the first group of local artists that promoted the production and use of handmade paper. A seasoned artist, Pandy has won several art awards, such as the Shell National Student's Art Competition (1964), the Art Association of the Philippines Annual Art Competition (1996), and the Thirteen Artists Award (1970). He served as a President of the Art Association of the Philippines (AAP) and the Philippine Association of Printmakes (PAP). He participated in a number of international art exhibitions that include the India Triennial (New Delhi, 1968), the Paris Biennial (1969), and the Havana Biennial (1991). He has mounted more than 20 solo exhibitions. Pandy studied Fine Arts at the Philippine Women's University – College of Music and Fine Arts (PWU-CMFA) and specialized in printmaking. He pursued further training in printmaking in the Escuela Superior de Bellas Artes in Madrid, Spain and the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris.
